International Football Association Board Discontinues Accidental HandBall Rule Due To Inconsistency.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB), has decided that the Accidental handball rule that allows unintended ball to hand contacts to present a goal-scoring chance or a goal for a team-mate, be discontinued.

According to IFAB on Friday 5th of March 2021, the decision to put a stop to the application of the law was made becuase the “interpretation of handball incidents” was not being applied consistently. IFAB also stated that is was looking at a possible adjustment of the offside law. 

Ex-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, suggested that a player should be considered onside if any part of their body that is allowed by football rules to score a goal is at the same level with the second-last defender.

Meanwhile, Fifa is expected to continue it’s tests on a semi-automated technology for detecting offsides, which would send a signal to the assistant match referee almost instantly, once a player is detected to be offside.
