In a world where most 13-year-olds are engrossed in video games or immersed in sports, Giacomo Cargnelutti, a remarkable young chess enthusiast, has taken an extraordinary path.

Giacomo, affectionately known as Jake, embarked on his chess journey at the tender age of five. Fascinated by the intricate strategies and captivating challenges that chess offered, he soon found himself not only playing the game but also teaching it.

His first pupil? None other than his seven-year-old brother, Zavier. As Jake’s teaching skills flourished, so did his entrepreneurial spirit.

“I began by teaching my brother, and his progress was astounding. That’s when the idea struck me to turn this into a business. I wanted to share the wonder of chess with people of all ages. My ultimate dream is to become a renowned chessmaster.”

Harnessing the power of Airtasker, a local online marketplace, Jake delved into the world of offering chess lessons to eager learners.

His sessions, conducted both virtually and in person, come with a price tag of approximately N28,000 per lesson. With an impressive roster of seven regular students and a steady stream of occasional clients, Jake’s teaching prowess transcends generational boundaries.

“My students span from six-year-olds to individuals in their sixties. I’ve witnessed their skills blossom, with some even representing their schools in various competitions. I’ve proudly collected numerous awards and trophies for excelling in local tournaments and school championships, securing our division’s victory for two consecutive years,” Jake shared with YahooFinance.

While initially motivated to join Airtasker to fund a Playstation 5, Jake has already achieved that goal and has now set his sights on a loftier aspiration—a car for his future.

However, financial gains aren’t his sole driving force. Teaching chess is a gratifying endeavor for Jake, allowing him to share his passion while forging new friendships.

“Chess is my realm of joy and challenge, enhancing my mathematical and logical acumen. Guiding others through the intricate dance of chess brings me immense satisfaction. Watching others learn and have fun simultaneously is a privilege,” he remarked with a grin.
