D’banj Biography

Nigerian singer, songwriter, recording artist, stage performer, model, and actor Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo popularly known by his stage name as D’banj was born on 9th June 1980 in Zaria, Kaduna State.

He is originally from Ogun State. His father is a military officer and D’banj was expected to follow in his father’s footsteps and was enrolled in the Nigerian Military School in Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria. At the age of 11, he completed his primary school education and proceeded to Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria where obtained his West African Senior School Certificate.

He moved on to Lagos State University to study Mechanical Engineering but was unable to finish there because of the consistent strikes by the Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU).

He left the country in 2001 to complete his studies as a mechanical engineer in London, United Kingdom and that was where he met Don Jazzy who was an upcoming record producer. They became good friends.

D’banj Music Career

Three years later both of them returned to Lagos, Nigeria, and set up the Mo’Hits Records Label. They came together once again and released their debut single titled “Tongolo”.

D’banj released his debut studio album “No Long Thing” in 2005 and the album was successful and sold millions of copies worldwide. In 2006, D’banj released his sophomore studio album titled “Rundown Funk u Up”.

D’banj released his third studio album “The Entertainer” with hit singles like Gbono Feli Feli, Kimon, and Entertainer in July 2008.

D’banj was signed to Kanye West’s records label “G.O.O.D. Music Record Label” as an artist in 2011. He left Mo’Hit Records, which was later changed to “Mavin Records” by Don Jazzy.

A year later, he signed a multi-million endorsement deal with Sony and was named the ambassador of the Bank of Industry (BOI). In November 2013, he signed a multi-million naira endorsement deal with GLO Nigeria.

Koko Master Dbanj’s Biography

In February 2015, D’banj was named the African Ambassador for Ciroc Nigeria. In that same year, he was made the brand ambassador of SLOT. He is also the founder of the Koko Foundation for Youth and Peace Development.
