Nigerian singer/songwriter, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun professionally known as Wizkid, was born on 16 July 1990. His music career started at age 11 but then he wasn’t known as Wizkid, he used to be called Lil Prinz but changed the name in 2006.
At the beginning of his music career, he was part of a group, Glorious Five. Wizkid’s first single was ‘Mami Water’ and he got signed to Banky W’s EME record label in 2009, which was the beginning of his success.
Wizkid’s first single under Empire Mates Entertainment got him nominated for his first Headies award as the ‘Next Rated,’ which he won.
His album tagged “Superstar” which had been released under EME in the year 2011 catapulted to the main stage in the industry. He became unstoppable. In 2011, he had a baby boy with his then-girlfriend Shola Ogudu. After his first son, Boluwatife, Wizkid had two sons, Ayodeji and Zion, with different women.
In 2014, Wizkid released his second album ‘Ayo,’ featuring top stars. Wizkid made it to Billboard’sTwitter Last 24 Hours chart in 2016 after his collaboration with Drake on the dope track, ‘One Dance.’
In 2017, he released another album titled “Sounds from the Other Side”. Wizkid’s hit single, ‘Soco’ became the most searched word on Google for the year, that was in 2018.
In 2019, Wizkid was featured in Beyonce’s ‘Lion King‘ album. He also featured in ‘Brown Skin Girl,’ alongside Beyonce’s first child, Blue Ivy, Beyonce, and Saint Jhn for which he won the Ashford and Sampson Songwriters’ Award during the 2019 Soul Train Awards.
