Paris St-Germain says its star forward Neymar, has been ruled out for up to eight weeks due to an ankle ligament damage.

The Brazilian was carried off the pitch on a stretcher in the closing stages of the 3-1 victory against Saint-Etienne.

According to his recovery timeline, Neymar is set to miss seven PSG Ligue 1 matches and a Champions League tie.

In its released statement, PSG said “The examinations carried out confirm Neymar suffered a sprained left ankle with ligament damage,”

However, the club added that a further update with more information would be made available in 72 hours.

PSG are currently 12 points ahead of second-placed Rennes in Ligue 1, but with a key member of their attack sidelined, their comfotable lead might be threatened.

They however have a guaranteed spot in the Champions League last 16.
